If you’ve watched Married… with Children, it’s hard to imagine anyone but Ed O’Neill as Al Bundy. He embodied the role so perfectly that it’s almost unthinkable that another actor was even considered. But before O’Neill stepped into those worn-out shoes, the producers had a different idea.

When casting the show, they initially offered the part to brash, loud-mouthed comedian Sam Kinison. While Kinison’s over-the-top energy might have made for a wildly different take on Al, fate had other plans. And luckily for TV history, O’Neill’s unforgettable audition sealed the deal.
